Why Shopify's built-in sort isn't enough
Shopify's automatic sorts are one-dimensional: best selling, newest, price or alphabetical. Best selling can't tell a product that sold well last year from one selling fast this week. It ignores margin and stock, so your top row can be full of products about to sell out. Newest buries everything after a week. Manual sorting fixes that, but nobody has time to re-sort 40 collections every morning.
StoreAi does what a good merchandiser would do, every day, using numbers from your own store.
What it looks at
| Signal | What it means | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Sales speed | Units sold per day over the last 30 days | Your orders |
| Trend | This week's pace compared with the month | Your orders |
| Margin | Price minus cost, as a share of price | Cost per item in Shopify |
| Days of stock | How long current stock lasts at this pace | Your inventory |
| Newness | How recently the product was added | Your catalog |
| Returns and size coverage | Refund rate, and how many sizes are in stock | Orders and inventory |
Each goal weighs these differently. Most revenue puts fast sellers and risers first. Best margin favours products that make you the most per sale, as long as they still sell. Clear old stock lifts products with months of stock. Launch new lines gives new products a top spot for 30 days, then they earn their place.
Your rules, in plain English
Goals cover most stores. When you want something specific, just say it: “push linen until the end of August”, “winter coats first until November”, “never put two of the same colour side by side”. StoreAi turns each sentence into a rule you can see, edit or delete. See plain-English sorting rules.
Safe by design
- It uses Shopify's own manual sort, so your theme needs no changes.
- Pinned products keep their place.
- You can preview every re-sort, and every move comes with a one-line reason, such as “4 days of stock left at this pace”.
- Every past order is saved. One click puts back any earlier order or your original sort.
- A proof report compares sales of the products it moved, before and after.
Growth re-sorts once a day. Pro re-sorts every hour. Sorting costs no AI credits: only your plain-English rules are read by a model, once, when you save them.
Badges from the same numbers
The numbers that sort your collections can also label products on your storefront: Selling fast, Low stock and #1 in Hoodies. They are factual, at most two per product, and refreshed on every sort. See storefront badges.
Questions
- Will the merchandiser mess up my collections?
- No. It shows the new order before anything changes, pinned products stay put, and every past order is one click away, including your original sort.
- Does it work with smart collections?
- Yes. Shopify lets any collection use a manual sort order, smart or not. StoreAi sets the manual order; your collection rules still decide which products are in it.
- What if I haven't entered product costs?
- Margin is simply left out for those products. Everything else still works. Add cost per item in Shopify to unlock the best margin goal.
- Does it read my customers' personal data?
- No. It counts units sold, refunds and revenue per product per day. It never stores customer names or contact details, and it deletes those totals after 60 days.
